Text of the video Good afternoon and welcome to this special edition of Amedeo. My name is Bernd Sebastian Kamps. What you see behind me is the historic center of Cagliari. We are on the island of Sardinia in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, halfway between Europe and North Africa. Here, in the busy Marina port district, Amedeo was born 10 years ago. And last month, again in Cagliari, Amedeo gave birth to a precious baby: The Amedeo Prize. The Prize will select the Medical Author of the Year 2007. It will do so by means of a vote of several thousand subscribers to the Amedeo literature service. These persons - you may happen to know some of them - represent a fine selection of physicians and researchers in medical science, and there is no doubt that they will select the best achievements in medicine. The winner of the Amedeo prize will be announced on July 4th. I have no idea who the winner will be - and neither do you. The person himself who will soon be known as THE Medical Author of the Year 2007 is unaware of his future reputation. He knows that he has published an important article - in a prestigious journal - but he is light years away from imagining that the most important vote ever organized to establish the impact of medical articles will distinguish his work. Amedeo is probably the only institution in the world capable of organizing this type of poll. If you are a subscriber, please check the new website. I want your expertise for the Amedeo Prize and I therefore ask you to participate, this month in the nomination round, and later in the three voting rounds. It will take you some time to decide which articles to nominate, but please take this time. Together with thousands of people from all over the world, we will identify the jewels of medicine.
